Special Education Support Packages:

  • Package 1 - Schedule a timeslot to have our special education advocate to help you prepare for the upcoming meeting.

  • Package 2 - Schedule our advocate to attend the meeting along side you.

Review Consultation Meeting Package

Forty-Eight hours prior to this meeting send the advocate any grades, classwork, IEP's, Eligibilities, or Psychological reports for the advocate to review. Then at the meeting the advocate will answer questions, explain scores, and make suggestions for the parent to take to the meeting held at the school. The advocate will explain how the school may manipulate the parent to make choices best for the school but will not be best for the student.

Advocate Will Attend Meeting Along Side Of The Parent/Guardian

Everything described in the Review Consultation package, plus attending the special education meeting alongside parent/guardian as part of the special education team. During the meeting, the advocate can provide input, suggestions, concerns, as requested by the client. (The parent will need to let the school know the advocate will be attending the meeting.)

Peggy

The procedure for entering the special education process can be confusing for parents. The staff in public schools are stretched very thin with the tasks of running and managing hundreds of students. Many times, out of necessity, the public school will determine a student’s educational plan to what works best for the school and not the student. That is where we can come in.

Teachers As Tutors is more than just a tutoring service. We have a dynamic professional that collaborates with us as an advocate for your child when entering or continuing to navigate the special education process.

Peggy has not just taught for 36 years as a special education teacher in public schools, she has also become a specialist in the types of tests given to students in determining the need for special education services. Peggy has experience in reading and interpreting test scores and helping to determine eligibility. Further, Peggy has used these scores to develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for students. An IEP is a map that lays out the special education instruction, supports, and services a student needs to thrive in school.
