MELISSA BERRY

Melissa Berry

In her own words:

I have over 20 years of experience as an educator; including working as a certified elementary education teacher and a special education teacher; as well as my ESOL certification. I have experience in Special Education Resource classrooms as well as Self Contained classroom. I love teaching and love to see students feeling successful! In the classroom, I used small groups and one on one time to support students. I break down material in fun and manageable ways during a lesson. Reading is a passion and I enjoy teaching it.

I have been trained on the S.P.I.R.E program; a reading readiness program. When teaching writing, I like teaching not only content but the mechanics of writing. I have used Handwriting Without Tears for students who need support with their writing. I use manipulatives, songs, and sensory objects to support learning; anything that will make learning fun and meaningful. Another area I have taught is social and affective skills to students; using social stories and games to develop eye contact and conversational skills.

I am a passionate advocate for students and parents and want parents to understand their rights pertaining to IEP ‘s, eligibilities, and Special Education meetings. Being a parent of a child with autism gives me a unique perspective to be able to support not only the child but the parent. All children can learn. I hope to be able to assist your child in their learning journey.
