Welcome Shenaz Lilywala!

Shenaz Lilywala

Shenaz is trained in the Orton Gillingham (OG) approach and has been using and seeing success with it for the last 4 years in her 1st grade classroom. She is passionate about using the OG approach as it gives her the opportunity to provide explicit multisensory instruction that she wished she had. She strongly believes that each and every child should be able to read. She saw how powerful the explicit instruction was that she was able to help her struggling students grow while being a virtual teacher the whole year during the pandemic. She believes in each child’s ability to learn and improve in their skills. Her goal is to be diagnostic and provide explicit instruction to help the child strengthen his/her skills that they need to work on whether it is phonemic awareness, encoding, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, or comprehension to help them become a more confident reader. Shenaz also loves to teach math using multisensory kinesthetic strategies and giving each student an opportunity to gain an in-depth conceptual understanding of numbers rather than memorizing procedures. She enjoys using hand-on math manipulatives and math games to help her students learn and enjoy math. Some of her students’ favorite activities were to jump on the trampoline while practicing counting and playing the 1-2-3 pop skip counting game!

Outside of teaching, Shenaz enjoys hiking, reading, watching movies, and going to the beach. She was born in India and has been living in Georgia for over 21 years with her family. She speaks 4 languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, and Gujarati. She is a tea aficionado and loves trying different types of herbal and fruit based teas. She collects children's books and has her own library at home. She loves reading to her students, nieces, and nephews about diversity, acceptance, kindness, women’s empowerment, and other character based topics to help build a strong ethical value system.

Shenaz tutors students in grades K-5 in math and reading in our Alpharetta office; in-home in the Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Roswell, Dunwoody, Atlanta, and Decatur areas. She also tutors online.
